Tattoo Aftercare

Follow these instructions carefully to ensure your tattoo heals properly

When the tattoo is complete we will apply some Vaseline and wrap it up in cling film, or keep it dry and apply some second skin.

If you walk away with clingfilm

1

Leave the tattoo wrapped for 2-3 hours

2

Remove clingfilm

3

Clean with kitchen roll and water

4

Pat dry with kitchen roll

5

Apply a thin layer of cream (less is more!)

6

Apply cream 2-3 times a day for 2 weeks

Recommended Creams:

Larger tattoos: Tattoo Goo (Superdrug or Boots)

Little tattoos: You may already have at home coconut oil or Bepanthen. These can also be purchased at Tescos, Boots or Superdrug.

Other: There are plenty of reputable tattoo aftercare creams and balms, just ask and we can advise!

Tattoos normally take 2 weeks to heal

If you have a large tattoo you may need to wrap your tattoo on the first night. If this is the case we will advise.

Your tattoo can become itchy, especially if we’ve shaved the area. This is normal. Applying a thin layer of cream alleviates the itch.

If you walk away with second skin

1

Leave the second skin on for 24 hours

2

Always remove second skin under running water

3

Start to peel from one corner slowly until removed

4

Clean the area with water

5

Pat dry with kitchen roll

6

Apply next layer of second skin (provided by the artist). We will show you how to apply this properly.

7

The tattoo can now be left for 4-5 days

Do’s and Don’ts

No bath or swimming for 2 weeks (showering is fine!)

Always have clean hands when applying cream

Keep the tattoo away from pets and dirt (treat like an open wound)

Keep out of the sun. Even when healed apply factor 50 sun cream to keep them looking their best!

Lay off the gym. Gentle exercise is fine but no excess sweating in the tattoo area

Do not wear shoes or clothes that will rub

If at any point you are concerned about your tattoo you can remove the second skin as instructed above
