SPMU & Microblading Removal in Lymington

Laser removal of unwanted or migrated permanent makeup — brows, lips, beard and scalp micropigmentation

If you have semi-permanent makeup (SPMU) that has faded, changed colour, migrated or simply isn’t what you wanted, we can lighten or remove it with laser at The Blackbird Wing in Lymington, New Forest.

We treat microbladed and tattooed eyebrows, lip liner and lip blush. We also remove scalp micropigmentation — the “micro-dot” hairline and density work — and beard SMP for men, using the same Q-Switched laser we use for tattoo removal.

How SPMU removal works

A Q-Switched laser delivers very short, high-energy pulses that break the permanent-makeup pigment into tiny particles. Your body’s immune system then clears these particles away over the following weeks.

Because pigment is removed gradually, most cases need a few sessions spaced several weeks apart. The number depends on the pigment used, how deep and how much was applied, and how your skin responds.

Why we always patch test first

Permanent-makeup pigments are not all the same as tattoo ink. Some — particularly nude, flesh, white and pink tones — can darken or change colour the first time they’re lasered.

For that reason we always carry out a patch test before starting a full course, so we can see how your specific pigment reacts and treat you safely.

What to expect

Sessions are short. Some redness, swelling and tenderness in the area afterwards is normal and expected.

Results vary: some permanent makeup lightens enough for a fresh cover-up or reshape, and some can be removed almost entirely. We’ll give you an honest assessment of what’s realistic for your brows, lips, beard or scalp at your consultation.

Common questions

Can you remove microbladed or tattooed eyebrows?

Yes. We use a Q-Switched laser to break down the pigment in microbladed or tattooed brows so the body can clear it, lightening or removing them over a course of sessions. We always patch test first to see how your pigment reacts.

Can you remove scalp micropigmentation (SMP) or beard SPMU?

Yes. We laser-remove scalp micropigmentation — the “micro-dot” hairline and density work — and beard SMP for men, breaking the pigment down so your body can clear it. As with brows and lips, we patch test first and treat over a course of sessions.

Does SPMU removal hurt?

It’s uncomfortable but quick. Most people describe it as a hot, sharp, stinging sensation — similar to laser tattoo removal — and because the areas treated are small, each session is over fast.

Why do you patch test before removing permanent makeup?

Some permanent-makeup pigments — especially nude, flesh, white and pink tones — can darken when first lasered. A patch test lets us see how your specific pigment responds before we commit to a full course, so the treatment is safe.

How many sessions will SPMU removal take?

It’s a gradual process, so most cases need a few sessions spaced several weeks apart. The exact number depends on the pigment, how deep and how much was applied, and how your skin clears it. We’ll estimate this for you at your consultation.
